The idea of a McFarland Lions Club was conceived during a golf match between some McFarland and Stoughton businessmen. From this discussion, a general meeting of civic minded citizens was called in the fall of 1962. After many meetings, and with the assistance of Lion Walter Netterblad, State Secretary; Lion Mansour of Lions International; and the Stoughton Lions Club, the new Lions Club was formed. Charter Night was held on February 9, 1963 at Herby's Supper Club, now the Maple Tree Restaurant in McFarland.
In November 1977 the McFarland Lions Club sponsored the McFarland Lioness Club.
